Infused Water: Something you Never Knew you Needed

Infused water. Everyone is drinking it. Everyone that has extra time is cutting delicious fruit into tiny pieces and putting it in their water bottles. I don’t have time for that….until my kids really loved it. For a wedding shower that we threw, my sister-in-law cut up all the tiny pieces and put them into the water (which took all of 5 minutes), and my kids went bananas over it. A few of my kids like cucumbers, a few don’t. The kids who don’t like cucumbers will at least suck on them if they’re in their water.  It counts, right?!

In the summer, my two youngest go straight for the milk. They will drink milk over water 24/7. Did you know that there is something called Iron Deficiency Anemia? Here’s a little info about it:

Iron deficiency anemia is the main concern for most toddlers who drink lots of milk. Milk is low in iron and it inhibits the absorption of iron in the body, so young children who drink a lot of it may become iron deficient. Toddlers are especially vulnerable because they may not have a diet otherwise high in iron, so they can’t make up for the lack in other ways. Also, because a toddler’s digestive tract is still developing, he may develop a mild reaction to milk that causes small amounts of blood loss in the intestines. Blood loss reduces the iron in the body, so this can make the likelihood of iron deficiency anemia even greater. Want more info? This paragraph was copied from Healthy Eating.

You learn something new every day, huh? I thought that was important info for all the baby mamas who rely on milk to fill their kids up when they refuse to each lunch, but you want them them to take a good nap (guilty!). Lesson learned: kick the milk in the morning, and give them water. Save the milk for filling them up before nap time.

There are so many different combinations of fruits to use for this.  It really depends on what you like. My kids really like the antioxidant/vitamin rich combination (aka, the good fruit one), so we stick with what works.  Here is a link to other combinations on my Pinterest page. Also, you can purchase the glass water dispenser here.                            Enjoy! xo, Leslie
