{6} Facts You Didn’t Know About At Home Teeth Whitening with Smile Brilliant
Do you drink copious amounts of coffee? I went from one cup of coffee on my way to work (I used to be a teacher) to almost a pot in a day (which was some of the reason why I was so exhausted) when my babies were born. My body stopped responding to it, but you know what didn’t? My teeth.
Here are {6} facts you didn’t know about at-home teeth whitening:
1.) We are now, more than ever, hyper conscious of what we put in/on our bodies. Studies over the past 5 years have shown that lab direct whitening (such as Smile Brilliant) to be safe and effective with minimal side effects. A small percentage may have sensitivity (caused by tooth dehydration – which I didn’t even know was a thing, NOT enamel damage), and gum irritation, but this disappears upon discontinuation or lessening the use of the High-Sensitivity Whitening Gel. Bonus: Smile Brilliant is voluntarily FDA registered!
2.) Over the past (almost) 11 years (my oldest will be 11 in March), I have had more cups of coffee than I care to admit. It has taken years to stain my teeth, which means it could take some a little longer to see results. Some might see results in 4-7 days, while others 10-14 days. Surprisingly, it took me about 7 days (seriously, you guys, so. much. coffee.), but I did have a night or two in-between where I skipped my treatment (which is totally fine to do!).
3.) Did you know that whitening strips actually use a different method than trays and gels? The bleaching method strips your teeth of enamel to get the job done, which can be pretty painful over time (OUCH!). I have used whitening strips in the past, but quit because of tooth sensitivity. Smile Brilliant, on the other hand, uses a safer and more realistic stain-removal ONLY method that’s more effective to whiten teeth.

4.) People think that those with sensitive teeth can’t whiten their teeth, or will have a negative experience. I have sensitive teeth and was definitely hesitant, but learning the facts about the tray method, I figured what do I have to lose? Because Smile Brilliant doesn’t remove any enamel, there is no permanent damage done. I experienced some discomfort each time I used the gel, so I added a little more time when using the Desensitizing Gel (that is included in the system), which quickly took care of the problem for me.
5.) Did any of you ever have plastic retainers that poked into your gums, post braces? I did. Smile Brilliant trays are made of flexible plastic, which form fits perfectly to the natural shape of my teeth. I was able to mold, send and get a 100% fitted tray to MY teeth. I’d just pop them in after I put the kids to bed, which definitely kept me from snacking like I broke into a candy store at 9:00 at night…(BONUS!)
6.) Studies are now showing that lab direct whitening done at home is similar, if not more effective than laser whitening at the dentist’s office (which I’ve heard is super painful). With laser whitening costing upwards of $500 – $1,000, Smile Brilliant is also more cost efficient. That’s a major plus because I just don’t think I could drop that kind of cash on teeth whitening.
